My Soul’s Song

I heard that I had three strikes against me. I’m a poor, black, woman living in America. You’d think that by living in the 21st century things would be different, but I‘ve felt the pull of my race, being a woman and being poor in America all of my life. And that’s why I have a story to tell. My Soul’s Song is my introduction into the book world.  I share the most intimate parts of me in this book.  If you’ve ever been lost in life before, your soul has a song.

My Soul’s Song paints the story of the colorful life and mind of me! This book is the canvas of my heart and soul. It tells the story of love, abandonment, faith, heart ache, fantasy and learning how to love myself. We are all born from love, however we look for it. But love is only a prayer away. Love takes hold of you and swallows every fiber of your soul.  I share the most intimate parts of me in this book. While pouring out my emotions and thoughts, I shower you with subjects that are tear jerking, brow raising, chin rubbing and some even make you want to praise a little. If you’ve ever been lost in life before, your soul has a song. Why not discover your soul’s song with me, in my book of poetry, My Soul’s Song? And remember through all of your trials and failures, you were born to win.

Introduction to the Juiciest Fruit

While drifting through the flood of thoughts in my mind, I discovered a whirl pool so deep that it swallowed me whole. Soon I submerged in turquoise waters and was swept onto an island abundant with all types of fruits. I picked each fruit and tasted them; there were kiwi, strawberries, grapes, oranges, nectarines, apples, pineapples and watermelons. Each told a story with every bite I took from the Juiciest fruit. They were delectable and sprayed my mouth with fruity goodness. Each fruit had been sun kissed and told stories of happiness, faith, loneliness, greed, sex, addiction, supremacy and deep secrets.

Though I was unfamiliar to this island, I was familiar with each story I heard. And I craved to eat and hear more about the Juiciest Fruit. I didn’t want to seem like a glutton, so I paced myself with every bite and listened intensely to each story told.

The Juiciest Fruit told stories that made my mouth water and some that made me want to vomit.

They said to me, “Child everyone craves the juiciest fruit, even if it’s  good or bad for them, but they just have to taste that sweet nectar of what drives them. And everyone has something buried so deep in them that the only way to unbury it is by shouting!

The thought of a juicy secret, happiness, faith, loneliness, greed, sex, addiction supremacy, and deep secrets are a part of every body’s existence.”

I am Shaniqua Hudson. I was born and raised in  Tulsa Oklahoma. Creative arts has always stimulated me in some way.  Music and writing became my muse at a very young age.  After graduating high school, I embarked upon my journey to college attending Tulsa Community College majoring in Broadcast Communications. I then transferred to the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) where I finished out my college experience. While at UCO I produced television segments on “Da Block” news program called Shaniqua the Business Diva and Your Talk.  After receiving my degree from UCO I sought out to move to New York, however the Lord had different plans for me, instead he led me to Texas, where I now am a writer for a news station.

My style of writing is enervative and brand new. I really don’t have any particularly favorite poet.  I write from my experiences, through adult lessons and adult hood. While searching for my self, my journey was treacherous, but it led me to the discovery of my own creative talents as a creator.

This dynamic collection of poetry demands attention, tackling subjects such as abandonment, sexuality, relationships, and faith.  I am truly grateful and blessed to have the ability to write out my thoughts and emotions.  I encourage you to do the same.
