Francésca's Bio
Biography for Francesca W. Taylor
Francesca Willette Taylor was born in Fort Worth, Texas on March 18, 1966. Her father passed away before
her second birthday, and her mother worked long hours at government jobs to support her family. Out of
necessity, Francesca started school early; however, her four older siblings had already begun teaching her how
to read and write when she was three years old.
She started writing poetry at age 8, and often won awards in school for creative writing and oration. By third
grade, school administrators and her teachers determined that she was academically gifted, and obtained her
mother’s consent to enroll her in accelerated learning programs, in which she continued to excel.
Although she was extremely shy and withdrawn, Francesca also expressed an interest in theater arts, and used
this as a means to potentially gain confidence around her peers.
She performed in numerous one-act play competitions, and won several awards for her stage work, as well as
over 100 honors for her scholastic achievements. She continued to write throughout high school, and served as
interim editor of her campus newspaper.
Francesca graduated as class valedictorian with a perfect grade point average, and was awarded an academic
scholarship to attend Texas Christian University on an academic scholarship, and pledged to Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, Inc in the Fall of 1985. She graduated from TCU with honors and a Bachelor of Science degree in
Broadcast, Journalism and Psychology.
Sadly, a few years later, her beloved mother died suddenly due to undetermined medical causes. Taylor, who
was suffering from undiagnosed depression, destroyed everything she had written, and focused on supporting
herself through whatever employment she could obtain. She worked various jobs in the advertising and
communications fields, but it was while she was working at a North Texas television station that she met
another talented multi-media journalist. She credits this dear friend with providing her the support and
encouragement to seek treatment for her depression, and to also pursue writing again.
It wasn’t until 2001 when Francesca slowly began to write poetry again, following the tragic events of
September 11th. Her first two poems, “Time To Heal” and “Tuesday Morning,” were published in books
dedicated to the victims of those events.
Taylor’s first book of poetry, “Pieces of Me,” is the product of work completed between 2001 and 2008. Its
subject matter is drawn directly from experiences in her life from childhood to the present such as: loss,
unrequited love, recovery and finding strength from within.
She currently resides in Arlington, Texas.
